Neurology Institute of Melbourne building

The Neurology Institute of Melbourne has the capability of diagnosing and treating all types of neurologic diseases because it has the state of the art technology including the video electroencephalogram (EEG) and the nerve conduction study/ electromyogram (NCS/EMG) machines.

The video EEG is superior to the other EEG machines.  It is used to test someone’s brainwaves.  This helps diagnose patients who have seizures, passing out spells, unexplained dizziness, memory loss or TIAs (stroke warning signs).

The EEG at The Neurology Institute of Melbourne has video capability.  Therefore, not only can you see the brainwaves and detect seizure activity, but you can also see what the patient is doing during the study, which helps to clarify the cause of any unexplained spells.

The NCS/EMG machine is used to test a patient’s nerves and muscles to determine why patients have pain, numbness or weakness in their arms and legs.  It is used in conditions such as neuropathy, myopathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, and radiculopathy (pinched nerves in the neck or back).
